Concept: “Test the Nation” is a prime-time programming format in Great Britain, offering family entertainment in quiz form on Saturday evenings at peak viewing time. In this show, groups of candidates encounter one another to prove their worth during dozens of quiz questions. Here, in a revolutionary way and for the first time in the history of television, viewers are now able to join in on every question with total ease with the aid of their mobile phones. The television audience at home is thus drawn into the programme.
Goal: - Television viewer participation via mobile phone
- Genuine bulk-capable interactive television
- Uncomplicated implementation and simple participation
- Added value generated in a playful, hence innovative, way
Implementation: For the first time in the history of television every viewer was able to actively take part in a live show – using commercially available mobile telephones and without sending SMS, for every single quiz question. This mechanism is enabled by the interactive “Play Along” solution: in synchrony with the questions on screen, the mobile phone displays the respective quiz question in real time. Simply by pressing a button, viewers are thus able to take a guess at the answers and actively take part in what’s happening on the show.
We justifiably describe this step towards “2nd-generation interactivity” as revolutionary, since the participation mechanism applied here overcomes the acknowledged weak points of SMS - including longer transmission times - to be overcome: with “Play Along” from Movota it finally made it possible to implement complex interactive TV solutions. Be it a quiz, game show, betting, group games, surveys or prize promotions: all viewers can join in. This is unprecedented technology!
This interactive solution consists of following arvato mobile products and services: Sweepstakes, Voting via Java Client, Consulting, Fulfilment
