The mobile game: “Wer Wird Millionär?”

Concept:
The entertaining RTL quiz format “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?”, presented by Günther Jauch, has already been thrilling a broad audience from all age groups for many years. Now, in addition to board games and PC versions of the show, the successful Java games are also inviting users to play "Wer wird Millionär" ("Who wants to be a millionaire?") outside its broadcasting times, thereby opening up interesting possibilities for generating revenue. In cooperation with arvato mobile, RTL is using a variety of distribution channels to provide RTL viewers with the different editions of "Wer wird Millionär" mobile games for downloading via an abbreviated dial number.

Goal:

  • Cross-channel expansion of the popular entertainment brands “Wer Wird Millionär?” and RTL
  • Generating brand loyalty among the technologically adept target group using the RTL branded application
  • Helping to free up advertising sales by creating alternative profit sources
  • Provision of genuine interactivity through highscore uploads on RTL Teletext and on the Internet since Edition 2

Implementation:
The official „Wer Wird Millionär?” Java game is advertised by RTL in TV ads and on Teletext.  After sending a normal SMS to the memorable arvato mobile short code 44444, the person placing the order for the mobile game receives a WAP push link. His or her handset is automatically identified after the link is opened and downloading of the handset-optimised Java application begins. Billing is done conveniently via arvato mobile Direct Interface Billing and guarantees transparency concerning the user’s mobile phone bill.

Additional marketing of the popular game is conducted via the Internet presence www.rtlhandyfun.de, implemented in co-operation with arvato mobile.

The success of the first, second, WWM STAR and football editions of this entertaining game is now being built upon by WWM Edition 3, which has been enhanced with numerous features and specials. These include hundreds of new questions and the joker function familiar to viewers of the TV show.
